BIRMINGHAM – The Jefferson County Coroner’s / Medical Examiner’s Office has identified two men shot dead in a weekend shooting at a Roebuck Plaza convenience store.
Joseph Demetrice Robinson, 25, and Rikki Dunri Christopher Bynum, 27, both of Birmingham, were both pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday evening 5 June. Another person was injured. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Birmingham Police then arrested a person of interest at a Pizza Hut on Parkway East.
“At around 9:00 p.m., an officer from the eastern constituency was walking into the 200 block of Roebuck Plaza Drive when he heard gunshots in the parking lot at 232 Roebuck Plaza Drive (Circle K),” said the Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald. “The officers then intervened in the parking lot where they observed three male victims, near a parked vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.”
Fitzgerald said a witness description of the shooter led to the arrest of the person of interest.
“Based on a report from a community member, the patrol officers were able to place a person of interest in detention at 9170 Parkway East (Pizza Hut),” he said.
The person of interest will be interviewed by detectives from the Homicide Division. Fitzgerald said the motive for the double homicide was unclear.
