Aston Villa considering Raul de Tomas move
Aston Villa are considering a potential move for Raul de Tomes, although the Daily Mail report there are concerns over his work rate off the ball.
The Villans are definitely a team to watch before the deadline passes. Steven Gerrard’s team looks extremely impressive. But a lot of optimism evaporated after they were displayed on opening day.
Several previously key players could now move on. The Daily Mail lists Tyrone Mings and Ollie Watkins among those who could leave in the final weeks of the window.
If the latter leaves, Villa fans will surely want a new striker to arrive. And it looks like a name on their radar is from Tomas.
According to the Mail, his name was mentioned at Villa Park. However, there are concerns about his work rate.
Aston Villa considering Tomas
De Tomas’ stock has never been higher. His tally of 23 league goals helped Espanyol get promoted in 2021. And he followed that up with another 17 La Liga goals last season.
He has already been linked with a move to the Premier League. Reports earlier this summer claimed Arsenal want the 27-year-old.
His contract includes a £59million release clause. And given that he’s contracted until 2026, one imagines Espanyol would be reluctant to sell him for much less.
If Villa have any concerns over his work rate, it’s hard to imagine the Villans offering a huge sum to bring him to England in this window.
But their form over the next few games may define how busy they will be before the deadline. And with that, the club could become more open to the idea of one last big statement of intent.
