Aston Villa, Leeds and Man Utd get rare Premier League excuses
The Premier League has issued rare apologies to Aston Villa, Leeds United, Newcastle United, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
The Premier League has apologized to supporters of all 20 clubs in its division, including Aston Villa, after rearranging January fixtures at short notice. Villa’s clash with Leeds United was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday January 14 but has now been moved to Friday night.
Unai Emery’s Villans will host Jesse Marsch’s Lilywhites at 8pm on January 13, allowing the match to be shown live on Sky Sports. The match change, which impacts Villa’s third home game after the World Cup, is among the latest Premier League broadcast selections. Not only does this impact Villa supporters, but Leeds fans as well.
The likes of Newcastle United, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have also been hit – as the December and January TV picks were originally due to be released in October. In reaction to his delayed announcement, the Premier League shared a rare apology.
In a statement, the Premier League said: “The fixtures which were selected for live TV broadcast in the UK in January 2023 have been released. The Premier League apologizes to supporters for the delay in announcing these fixtures and understands their frustrations.
“The finalization of these particular selections has taken longer than expected due to difficulties in obtaining approvals from relevant local stakeholders.
