Aston Villa now want to sign £68,000-a-week man over Franck Ribery
According to BILD, Aston Villa are keen to bring Emil Forsberg to the Premier League and are more keen than most to sign the Swede.
What is the story?
Well, the German outlet believe Aston Villa are ‘above all’ other teams hoping to sign the Sweden international.
Forsberg could soon be on the market after his role was reduced under Domenico Tedesco, which the Villans and other parties have noted.
BILD believe a number of requests have been made for the 30-year-old but a transfer doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon as he loves the club and the city.
However, Forsberg is frustrated at being left out of the starting XI this season.
The attacking midfielder has played just five minutes out of a possible 180 in the Bundesliga so far this season and started the DFL-Supercup clash with Bayern Munich on the bench.
It’s a surprising move from Tedesco as Forsberg was one of RB Leipzig’s best performers last season.
In 46 appearances last season, the £68,000-a-week man scored 11 goals and also provided four assists.
Aston Villa don’t need Emil Forsberg
In our opinion, Steven Gerrard would be foolish to waste part of his budget on Forsberg.
As talented as the Swede is – he’s been compared to Franck Ribery, who tells you all there is to know – Aston Villa no longer need attacking midfielders.
Gerrard already has a headache over whether to start Philippe Coutinho or Emiliano Buendia, so the last thing he needs is another talented attacking midfielder to make that decision even more difficult.
Moreover, Forsberg turns 31 in October, so he wouldn’t represent a long-term investment for Aston Villa.
Keep an eye on this saga as there could be more developments involving the RB Leipzig No.10 soon.
