Beale gushed over £19.6m player Aston Villa failed to sign
Former Aston Villa manager Michael Beale has taken Twitter to rave about Calvin Bassey, a player Villans manager Steven Gerrard reportedly wanted to sign in the summer transfer window before leaving Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers for Ajax.
Bassey was on the books at Rangers from 2020-2022 before moving to Ajax.
According to Sky Sports, Ajax have paid Rangers £19.6million in transfer fees for the 22-year-old, who can function as a left-back or centre-back.
Aston Villa wanted to sign Calvin Bassey
Villa were linked with a move for the Nigeria international ahead of his move to Ajax.
Athletic reported in July that Aston Villa are also keen on Bassey.
The Secret Scout reported on July 15 that Arsenal, Ajax, Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester United all wanted to sign Bassey from Rangers in the summer transfer window.

However, Bassey decided to move to Ajax instead.
Beale is a former Rangers and Aston Villa manager.
The Englishman worked with Steven Gerrard at Rangers and then at Villa.
