Is Darren Waller playing Week 8?
Waller (hamstring) is officially listed as ‘doubtful’ ahead of the Raiders’ Week 8 road game against the Saints, according to the official team injury report. Waller was a limited participant in practice this week, giving him a good chance to return against New Orleans on Sunday.
Waller aggravated his hamstring in the first half of the Raiders’ Week 5 game against the Chiefs and hasn’t seen game action since. In his place, fellow TE Foster Moreau backed more snaps, but he only had three passes for 28 yards in Week 7. Given the lack of depth at the tight end position, if Waller is ready to go, he remains a must-start, even against a Saints defense that allows second-fewest FPPG to make tight ends (5.0). If Waller isn’t active, expect another very quick game for Moreau, but Moreau should probably stay on the fantasy owners’ benches in shallower leagues.
Does Dalton Schultz play in Week 8?
UPDATE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported late Saturday night that Schultz is should play against Chicago.
Schultz (knee) has a ‘questionable’ tag entering the Cowboys’ Week 8 game against the Bears, according to the official team injury report.
Schultz has practiced every day, albeit on a limited basis, but he should be there against Chicago this Sunday. Even if he plays, he might not be 100%, which makes him a pretty risky fantasy option. On top of that, the Bears defense allows fifth-fewest FPPG to make tight ends (5.7), so Schultz will likely be kept quiet in Week 8. If he’s out, look for Jake Ferguson to pick up the majority of TE targets for Dallas.
Does Juwan Johnson play Week 8?
Johnson (hamstring) is officially listed as “doubtful” ahead of Sunday’s game against the Raiders. Johnson was able to log limited back-to-back training sessions to end the week, boosting his chances of a fight against Las Vegas.
Johnson is coming off a strong performance in Week 7, catching five passes for 32 yards and two touchdowns in New Orleans’ 42-34 loss to Arizona. He draws a tantalizing game against a Las Vegas defense allowing the fourth FPPG to have tight ends (14.0), but the potential return of compatriot Adam Trautman (ankle) could cap Johnson’s ceiling. Still, without Michael Thomas (foot) or Jarvis Landry (ankle), Johnson deserves a deep start if he plays.
